The pale grey background acts as a flat surface to emphasise the main focus on Noel and the surrounding headlines, which are very significant features on this particular magazine cover. The colour red is used on the title and important cover lines for example 'Green Day' and 'Madness'. Red is used as this is the most vibrant and attention grabbing colour used on alternative music magazines.
